WCA Grad Interns at Colonial Baptist College Ministry

By Evie Fordham

Class of 2014 graduate Trevor Thornton serves as an intern in the college ministry, also called C2, at Colonial Baptist Church, where many Wake Christian families worship. He began attending Wake Christian his sophomore year and is now pursuing a major in Trust and Wealth Management with a minor in Biology at Campbell University.

Trevor’s current studies may not seem to directly feed into his position as a ministry intern, but he loves serving at C2. He became interested in interning after hearing about the experience from a friend and was interviewed for the position by Ben Davey, C2’s pastor, who has spoken at Wake Christian chapel before.

“I primarily plan and run certain events,” Trevor explained, “I also do a lot of tasks around the office to get ready for events and Sunday mornings.”

He added, “I love working in the office with the rest of the staff and growing closer to them. They’ve all been a huge encouragement to me since I started interning, and they’ve really pushed me and helped me grow in my relationship with Christ.”

Trevor also likes the relationships he’s been able to build with his peers. He stated, “I really enjoy finding ways to incorporate other C2 students and their talents and passions into the ministry too. We’re always looking for different events and ways to reach out to the community, and it’s really awesome to see how other students want to use their passions to serve the community and our local church body.”

Trevor isn’t quite sure how the internship will fit into his future plans, but right now he’s thankful for the opportunity that he has to serve.

“Typically the tenure is a year, so that’s what I’m planning on right now,” he said, “[The internship] definitely helped me get involved more in the church and build a lot of new friendships. It has also helped me to develop a more serving and willing heart. I plan on interning really as long as I’m able.”
