Fiddler on the Roof comes to WCA

The Wake Christian Academy Class of 2016 is excited to present their senior play Fiddler on the Roof. Performances are 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 28 and Friday, January 29 as well as a dinner theater performance at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 30. The performances will be in the Wake Christian auditorium, and tickets cost $15 for regular performances and $25 for dinner theater. Fiddler stars Holden Bradshaw as the lead, Jewish peasant Tevye, and Audrey Byers as his wife, Golde.

“I think that the audience will enjoy a lot of humor in the play, along with a very heart-warming and serious plot,” Hunter Tart, who portrays the tailor Motel, said.

Twenty-nine seniors have roles in the production. Their other classmates serve as makeup artists, stage crew, stage managers, dinner theater waiters, and more.

“I’ve learned a lot about acting and singing, but mostly about being part of a team,” Geneva Collins, who plays matchmaker Yenta, said, “We’ve all had to learn how to work together both on and off the stage.”

In addition to developing chemistry as a cast, the actors learned how to become comfortable in their roles.

“The first challenge was just getting out of my comfort zone as I try to play this crazy old woman,” Geneva said, “I really had nothing to worry about, though, because my class was so supportive and encouraging.”

The seniors have found participating in the play to be full of rewards. Hunter enjoyed finding out how talented his classmates were and watching them grow in their acting and singing. Geneva noticed she and the other actors love developing their characters.

“I love being someone so different from who I am,” Geneva said.

The seniors hope everyone who can will come see their hard work.

“There are some pretty funny scenes that I think will get a laugh, but I’m excited for the audience to experience everything!” Geneva said, “The props and scenery, the characters, the music — I think it is all going to be a treat for the audience.”
