October Elementary Blog

ssaulsBy Sandra Sauls, Elementary Principal

In Elementary school, generosity and a spirit of service are things that our students understand at every age and in every grade. They like to share their generosity too.  It is a joyful and infectious feeling to watch the boys and girls get excited about helping others. Encouraging our students to follow through on what comes naturally to them at this age establishes a foundation of serving that I hope will stay with them as they grow older.  To give you an idea of what they have been up to so far this school year – the Elementary students participated in the Hurricane Relief Flood Buckets project along with the rest of WCA. Flood Buckets will provide much needed items for the people in NC impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The flooding in our areas impacted some of our students and their families too.  Participating in the Flood Buckets project  gives us a chance to talk with students about the Hurricane, about being prepared for bad weather  and how important it is to help people in need.

In addition to the Flood Bucket project, the Elementary students will begin promoting Joy Toys in November.  Joy Toys supports the local CEF organization led by Bob Fowler who is also a WCA graduate. The children are asked to donate new unwrapped toys, dolls, stuffed animals, board games, balls etc. for Mr. Bob and his helpers to distribute to parents who attend the Birthday Parties for Jesus hosted by CEF. Through this outreach, parents are now able to provide a Christmas gift for their child and the adults and children who attend the event hear the Gospel.

The WCA family also recently finished a Food Drive in partnership with Community of Hope.  Mrs. Moody’s class was able to go to Community of Hope for their mission outreach.  The fifth grade students help unload and organize the record number of donated items (1430 cans, 280 boxed goods, 640 pounds dry goods) on the shelves.

I am blessed by the enthusiastic participation of our Elementary students and families.  Thank you for sharing words of truth and actions of love (John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-10) in our community.

End of October Blog suggestion:

Whether you participate in Halloween or not in your family, I would like to encourage you to think about October 31st as an opportunity to share Jesus with the kids and families who may participate.   This is something my family has done in our neighborhood.  A Bible verse attached to a piece of candy or a gospel track given out with a treat is a great way to share Jesus with people who are willingly coming to our homes for a treat. What a special treat to hear about what Jesus did for us!

(Disclaimer: WCA does not support or encourage the celebration of Halloween.) We do encourage you to share the story of Jesus with others as God gives you opportunities.  I look forward to hearing how you are sharing with others what Christ did for you.
