School Nurse Elizabeth Stewart, smiling under her mask!

Meet Our School Nurse Elizabeth Stewart

Ask our School Nurse Elizabeth Stewart about her childhood aspirations, and she immediately smiles and says she always hoped to work with children! Which of course, comes as no surprise to us. Her passion to care for our students is impressive and she has been a tremendous asset in helping WCA navigate the logistics of in-person school this year.

Raised in Clayton, N.C., Mrs. Stewart attended N.C. State University and lived with her aunt (also a nurse) at that time. Seeing her aunt’s dedication and commitment to care for others inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing, became an R.N. and a Certified Pediatric Nurse, now with twenty years of experience.

Mrs. Stewart spent the bulk of her career at Duke University Medical Center and Wake Med. Her daughters Carly and Lilly attend WCA, and her husband Wesley is a proud ’96 alum. Mr. Stewart is now CFO of a local clinical research software solutions company.

As we look toward the end of this school year, Mrs. Stewart is quick to share how proud she is of our students and of the attitudes of our families. She says, “We couldn’t have done this without the cooperation of our parents and students. They are resilient and adapted to new guidelines very well.”

We are so thankful Mrs. Stewart has been with us this year! We’re proud to have a full-time school nurse on staff and her expertise is a huge blessing to our school family. And we look forward to seeing her smiling face at the nurse’s desk for years to come!
