Detailed Club Information
Ready to take your building skills to the next level? Become an early engineer! This club welcomes young men and women as they learn about several different careers in the field of engineering and take the bridge building challenge. Students will hear from professionals in the engineering field discuss different aspects of building, as well as have an opportunity to work in small groups on a bridge project of their own design.
Lego® Brick Builders (Fall)
Students in third and fourth grades bring their imaginations and Legos® for a fun time of innovative and creative building while meeting and working with friends.
Minecraft Club (Spring & Fall)
Students will explore team building challenges and use cooperative strategies to accomplish their goals. Minecraft Club plays in the creative mode only using MinecraftEDU, educational software created for classes to experience teamwork through a virtual design world. No software purchase is necessary for parents, and all access to student accounts is maintained through WCA’s server only. Prepare to experience Minecraft in a challenging new world where collaboration brings unlimited possibilities for what you can design together! This will be an 8-week club to allow for additional time to complete building challenges.
Robotics (Spring and Fall)
Taking the Lego® Brick-building to new heights, sponsors lead the fifth-grade members to construct and program working robots using Lego® Mindstorm kits. The students have multiple opportunities to use their problem solving and computer skills to creatively diagnose and solve the challenges in creating their robots.
Running Club (Spring)
Get in shape for the Mission Outreach 5K run held this year on Saturday, March 12! Students will have a chance to train each week to build up their potential for completing the run. Each club will involve stretching exercises and running on school grounds with adults and members of the track team. Parent volunteers are also needed to run/walk alongside students or help chaperone by maintaining a safety post along the course. Please email Mrs. Causer if you would like to volunteer to help in this club.
Cooking Club (Fall)
Students in third through fifth grade will learn the art of cooking. They go over basic cooking skills, practice recipes, and enjoy all the ingredients for fun as they prepare mouth-watering creations.
Photography Club (Fall)
Do you have a talent for taking good pictures? Improve your creative flair by joining the Photography Club and become more educated in this field of art. Students can sharpen their skills as they learn different aspects of photography and enjoy some constructive critiquing by our guest photographers. Students must provide their own cameras or devices for taking pictures during the club. This club will run for 5 weeks on alternating Thursdays.
Golf Club (Spring and Fall)
We are proud to offer an opportunity through TGA Premier Junior Golf. TGA Premier Junior Golf is the only national at-school, afterschool golf enrichment program. TGA provides ALL equipment so students need to bring nothing but a smile to each class. With a maximum student-to-instructor ratio of 8-1, students learn all aspects of golf, from swing fundamentals to the game’s rules, etiquette and life values, while advancing through a 5 Level Program. The TGA program helps build life values through educational concepts that include math, English, science, and history. The class is held in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment that builds confidence, focus, motor skills, and self-esteem. First-time students will receive a TGA Hat, TGA Ball Marker, and a TGA Student Handbook. This is a 6-week club.
Volleyball Club (Spring)
Bump, Set, Spike! Any girls interested in learning the basics of volleyball and having a chance to compete in volleyball games with each other, then please sign up for Coach Deans’ Volleyball Club! This club will have a chance to work with the WCA Varsity Volleyball Team. There is no limit to the spaces available in this club. Each participating student will receive a t-shirt as well.
Make and Take Crafters (Spring)
Enjoy some crafty fun in our new crafting club! Students will complete a craft to take home each week. The items we will make will be of interest to boys and girls alike and will include painting, string work, unique artwork, projects using everyday items, and practical use crafts. Enjoy making art come to life in this club.
“Junior Bulldog Times” Newspaper
As a part of this club, students research, write, edit, and publish a newspaper for the fifth-grade school family. If you are a fifth grader, interested in current events, and love to write, this club is for you!
