Elementary Music Opportunities
Introduction to music education begins in the early years, with weekly music classes where students begin to learn fundamental music theory. In fourth and fifth grades, students have the opportunity to participate in Chorus, Strings or Band. It’s a joy to experience the excitement as our young students discover new instruments and learn to perform as part of a group.
Middle School Classes and Extracurricular Opportunities
Students may choose fine arts electives including Strings Orchestra. This group will meet every-other day. Students have the opportunity to perform at multiple school-wide concerts and at various competitions within the community to showcase the talent the Lord has blessed them with. Students may choose fine arts electives including Handbells. This group will meet every-other day. Students have the opportunity to perform at multiple school-wide concerts and at various competitions within the community to showcase the talent the Lord has blessed them with. Students may choose fine arts electives including Concert Band. This group will meet every-other day. In addition to two concerts per year, Concert Band students may audition for All-State Band Festival. Eighth grade students are invited to join Marching Band (seventh grade students may audition with permission). Please note: Spring workouts for drumline and color guard begin in April. Band camp will take place in July. Contact Todd Medlin for more information. Our award-winning Bulldog Regiment entertains our school family and community during WCA varsity football games and during local holiday parades. Traveling to competitions in North Carolina and Virginia each fall, WCA’s Marching Band seeks to honor the Lord in striving for excellence on and off the field. Eighth grade students are invited to join Gideon's Line (seventh grade students may audition). Participation in our Jazz Band is offered as an extracurricular activity, with regular weekly practices during the winter and spring seasons. This group performs at two concerts per year, participates in jazz festivals, and hosts an annual "Jazz Sweet" spring performance on our campus.
High School Classes and Extracurricular Opportunities
Opportunities expand in high school, where older students can also mentor younger students. For information about upcoming drumline or color guard workouts (grades 8th-12th only), please contact band director Todd Medlin.
Students may choose fine arts electives including our High School Strings Ensemble. This group meets every day. Students have the opportunity to perform at multiple school-wide concerts and at various competitions within the community to showcase the talent the Lord has blessed them with. Students may choose fine arts electives including our Handbell Choir. This group will meet every day. In addition to several concerts per year, our Handbell Choir students may perform seasonally within our community. Students may choose fine arts electives including our Symphonic Wind Ensemble. This group meets every day. In addition to two concerts per year, our Symphonic Wind Ensemble students may audition for All-State Band Festival competition. Selected students may also participate in the pit orchestra, to support our annual senior play performance. Please note: Spring workouts for drumline and color guard begin in April. High School Students with vocal or musical instrument experience may audition for our Praise and Worship Team. This group practices outside of school hours with weekly rehearsals, and performs at both our middle school and high school chapel assemblies.
