Congratulations to Syvon Holland – MLK Jr. Essay Contest Winner!

We are happy to announce that senior Syvon Holland recently won the first annual Cultural Arts Society of Fuquay-Varina MLK Jr. essay contest.

From Dr. King’s 1968 “I Have A Dream” speech, Syvon was challenged to reflect-on the phrase “a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.” He wrote about what the phrase meant in-context and how he sees this idea exemplified in the world today, based on his experiences.

At the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration sponsored by CASF-V, Syvon read the essay to his family, Town of Fuquay-Varina comissioners, Mayor John Byrne and featured speaker Associate Justice of the NC Supreme Court Cheri Beasley.

Syvon is the son of Carla and Emanuel Holland of Fuquay-Varina. This is a great honor for Syvon, and we are proud of him!
