Mrs. Lucas moves to Algebra II

This post is written by Evie Fordham, a Senior at WCA and an intern in the Advancement Department.

Many Wake Christian students were dismayed to hear that beloved teacher Wanda Lucas was departing from her position teaching physical science and biotech after the 2013-2014 school year.  However, they were equally overjoyed to find out that she was only switching to teach Algebra II here at Wake Christian!  After teaching physical science to ninth graders for a decade, Mrs. Lucas stated, “I absolutely loved every aspect of physical science… I actually majored in math with a minor in science. I’ve taught Algebra II before… I am very excited about teaching it again.”

It is very obvious that Mrs. Lucas is a popular teacher.  She is a senior class sponsor, a high school Student Council adviser, and the recipient of the 2012 Yearbook’s High School Teacher Dedication. Freshmen at Wake Christian Academy left her classes with a new found appreciation for science, because she is such a fun and engaging teacher. Mrs. Lucas is known for not only for informative lectures but also assigning cool projects, and she even rewards the class with the best average with a party!  Mrs. Lucas is looking forward to teaching math again and says, “Math is such a necessity and I look forward to trying to help students fall in love with it if they hate it, or grow to love it more if they already have the passion for it. It’s going to be fun! I really did enjoy physical science but am excited about the new opportunities that lie ahead for this year.”
