WCA Senior and Eagle Scouts

Wake Christian sat down with two Seniors who recently achieved their Eagle Scouts. Below are their interviews and stories.

WC: Zane, how old are you and how long have you attended WCA?

ZC:My name is  Zane Marsh Chandler, I am 18.
I started WCA in the 9th grade after attending Centennial Magnet Middle School.

WC: When and why did you started Boy Scouts?

ZC: I began Scouts at Cub Pack 391, Garner United Methodist Church when I started 1st grade.  I started as a Tiger, graduated to Wolf, then became a Bear, then a WEBELOS I and finally a WEBELOS II.  I earned the Arrow of Light which is the highest accomplishment in Cub Scouting.  I then bridged over to Boy Scout Troop 391 at Garner United Methodist Church and earned my Eagle Scout January 9, 2013.

WC: What is your favorite scouting memory/lesson?

ZC: One of my favorite memories was attending Leave No Trace Training at Camp Durant and then being able to bring these lessons back to my Troop and training others in the Leave No Trace Principles.

WC: What was your Eagle Scout project and when did you become Eagle scout?

ZC: My Eagle Scout Project was building a stage / riser / storage unit for my
youth Sunday school room.  This seating riser allows for us to comfortably
utilize the space in my Sunday school room in a variety of ways.  I became
an Eagle Scout January 9, 2013 and we held my Eagle Scout celebration April
6, 2013 in the Christian Life Center at Garner United Methodist Church.

WC: How do you feel scouting has improved your spiritual life?

ZC: The 12th point of the Scout Law is “A Scout is Reverent” and I certainly keep this

point in front of me always.  I have participated in the God and Country
Studies offered by my Pack, Troop and Church as well as bringing God to my
Troop by holding the position of Chaplain’s Aide.

Tyler’s Eagle Project built three benches for Camp Oak Hill in Oxford N.C.   Camp Oak Hill is a Christian residential summer camp  providing leadership, facilities and programs that challenge youth to make Jesus Christ Savior and Lord of their lives.  Tyler has participated as a camper since he was 7 years old with his favorite activity being archery.   The benches have been placed in the archery area to assure safe seating for campers waiting their turn with archery.
Tyler has participated in scouting with Pack and Troop 320 in Fuquay-Varina since the third grade and earned his Eagle Scout September 10,2014.  During his years in scouting he has served in a variety leadership roles and participated in the 2010 and 2013 National Boy Scout Jamborees.  He currently is serving as a mentor with the Cub Scout Pack 320.
